President's Reports

In the past year, there are three major events that are worth noting.

Publication of the 20th anniversary booklet

This year we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Reading Association. Twenty years is not a short period for an organisation. Compared with the International Reading Association; however, Hong Kong Reading Association is still relatively young! Our aims to publish this booklet are :

to introduce our Association to new members and friends
to document major activities and events of our Association
help us reflect on our past and plan for future

If you are interested in this booklet, please do not hesitate to contact us via email.

Promote Parent-Child Reading
The Association was successful in applying for the Quality Education Fund (QEF) to organize workshops to help parents to promote reading at home. A total of HK$200,000 has been awarded (Project date: July 2000--September 2001; Team members: Sam Leung (PI), Audrey Lim and Eva Lui).

Story-telling sessions for children
Between July and August, HKRA joined hands with the Hong Kong Public Libraries in organizing story-telling sessions for children (16 sessions in 8 libraries). The Association is grateful to students from the Department of Speech and Hearing   Sciences of the University of Hong Kong who volunteered in the story-telling sessions.

Story-telling workshops for parents

HKRA also co-organized with the Hong Kong Public Libraries in hosting the story-telling workshops for parents in the summer. We are grateful to Ms, POON Kam Ying, Ms. Pearl POON, Dr. SOON Oi Ling and our EXCO members, Ms. Irene CHAN, Ms. Mabel WONG, and Dr. WONG Shui Chun in doing the workshops.
